DVDS
Mystic River: I liked it. Great acting from everybody. It's not a light movie. Pretty brutal. In a review on Amazon somebody said they didn't like it cause none of the characters was likable. Nobody got any redemption. I can see that.
The plot seems to hold together well enough. No glaring holes leap out at me.

Dead Like Me - pilot episode: I picked up the first disc of this series cause a friend wanted to check it out. The first disc only has the pilot on it. I liked it. It's pretty funny and it has Mandy Patinkin. The humor is fairly dark. Some good one liners and the like. I'll probably eventually get some of the other discs.

Books
Reading:
The Killer Angels: Really good Civil War novel. I'm about half way through and liking it quite a bit.

Shutter Island: Written by the same guy who wrote Mystic River. A good read. Kept me interested all the way through. The end was not what I expected either.

Stuck Rubber Baby: A graphic novel. I picked this up years ago and read it and liked it a bunch. Last night I was looking through my shelves to see if I had anything to take to the library book sale and picked this out to read again. It's very good.

Dies the Fire: Just started this one. The premise is that there is a Change and suddenly a bunch of technology quits working. I think like anything invented in the past couple hundred years or something. Basically, cars and guns and electricity stop working. The book follows some SCA types and an ex-marine pilot guy as they cope with this. I generally like these sort of 'end of civilization' types of books. Swiss Family Robinson is one of my favorite books ever. But...this guy doesn't seem like such a great writer to me. His characters and dialogue seem kind of stilted. I'll probably finish it though.

Tattoo and I ended up at the creek again today. We found a big stick (nearly a log) for him to fetch out of the water. After quite a bit of playing he dropped the stick for me to throw and I noticed there was blood oozing from his tongue. He didn't care but I made him stop. Put the stick in a tree so he knew it was done. His tongue quit bleeding pretty quickly, which was good. I don't know what to do for a bleeding tongue to make it stop bleeding.

I don't know if the bit his tongue or scratched it on the stick.

He damn near drowned himself one time when he ducked his head under to grab the stick. It was stuck on something and he didn't want to let go. I was about to go in and pull him out when the stick came free.

I think size matters for dog sticks. He seems much happier when I'm throwing those big sticks.

My two roomies were calling around looking to rent some storage units.

Called a place and said: "We are looking to rent two units, one about 50 square feet and the other about 100 square feet"

The reply: "We don't have any that big. Most of our units are 10 feet by 15 feet"

Roomie: "That's bigger than what I just said"

Reply: ""

Roomie: "Never mind"

This happened twice.

I can see if somebody off the street made this mistake. Not everybody is great with math. No biggie.

But this is what the people at the storage unit place do. They sit there, answer the phone, give out price quotes and wait for the rent checks to come in. You should know how to figure out square footage. Crap, you should know the square footage of your rental units. I'd know how many cubic feet they were. It's not that hard and it's not like they are super busy with stuff.

I realized that this will be the first time in my life I've lived alone. After moving out of my parent's house I've always had housemates.

Now though....I can do anything!

I can do my Risky Business Tom Cruise Underwear Rock N Roll dance anytime I want!
I can wake up in the middle of the night, go into the kitchen and eat ice cream while standing in front of the fridge. Naked!

Brrrr. That's probably kinda chilly.

I can listen to whatever music I want without putting on headphones.

I don't have to worry about annoying moody roomies with my goofy antics. No, really.

I don't have to worry about the dog pissing anybody off.
