A story in today's paper LINK has given me another reason for wanting to leave Chico.

I walk by that area nearly every night when I walk Tattoo.

Newman was cutting through the Children's Playground to get to his apartment on West Sacramento Avenue. He was in the vicinity of the footbridge over Big Chico Creek when the attack occurred.

I used to go right next to that footbridge to let my dog play in the creek. I have quit going to that area because it is completely unlit and kind of scary. Guess I was correct in avoiding it. I still go to that creek though, just further downstream where there is a lit area.

This incident combined with the recent jump in real estate prices in Chico has about put me over the Leaving Chico edge.

I don't understand why a little town like Chico doesn't have some police foot patrols. A cop walking through that park occasionally would be really nice.

Oh well.

I assume that there was a time when the majority of Americans trusted their government. They believed that the people in charge were doing what they thought best for the country and it's people. I don't believe that is the case any longer. I think, for many reasons, most people no longer trust the U.S. Government.

This site is neat.

You just fill in the blanks and hit the send button and you send a letter to the editor of your local paper.

Mine said this:

Do you feel your life is better now than it was before Bush was elected? Do you think our country can survive another 4 years of his 'leadership'?

Bush is using our entire country as his 'blue dress'. Lets clean his mess off of us before it leaves a permanent stain.
