I love Bill Hicks.
I first saw him on HBO, I think, many years ago. He came on stage to some loud rock music, wearing all black with a cowboy hat. Then he tore shit up in a way I'd never seen before on stage. I have been a fan ever since. I own 3 or 4 of his cds and have listened to them multiple times. Much of what he says resonates with me. The fact that he's so funny while he says it is a bonus.
I have long wanted a dvd of his performances. Recently it came to my attention that an offical dvd of his stuff had been released. I wanted it bad. Last week I got it from Tower Records. I watched it. That scene I mention above is the start to one of the 3 shows that are on this disk. I think he used that entrance style more than once, because I'm pretty sure this wasn't the same concert I had seen before. Or maybe that show I saw all those years ago is just better in my memory.
All in all, I was kinda dissapointed in the dvd. Several bits are repeated in the shows. I don't really care for his 'goat boy' routine and he does an extended riff on that in one of the shows. I dunno. The cds just seem funnier. I hope they release more of his stuff on dvd. I hope this is not the sole visual representation we have of his work.
I wish here were around now.
