Break on through to the other side
Oct. 7th, 2005 07:37 pmA ray of hope in the world. John Densmore, the former drummer for the band The Doors, refuses to allow the Doors music to be used for commercials.
Thank you John!
A few years ago some beer company was using computer graphics to impose John Wayne into some of their commercials. I hate that shit. Seeing that commercial for the first time actually made me livid with rage, just like the cliche says.
Densmore's reason for not selling out:
"People lost their virginity to this music, got high for the first time to this music," Densmore said. "I've had people say kids died in Vietnam listening to this music, other people say they know someone who didn't commit suicide because of this music…. On stage, when we played these songs, they felt mysterious and magic. That's not for rent."
Heck ya. I like what he asks Ray Manzarek everytime he calls to whine about selling the rights:
"When Ray calls, I always ask him, 'What is it you want to buy?' "
Yah Ray, how much damn money do you need? You're 66 years old, you are set for the rest of your life. Chill out with the greed.
Thank you John!
