Just what you wanted to see....
Mar. 26th, 2006 02:41 pmMy dog, Tattoo, has an eating disorder. His problem is he is an indiscrete eater. He'll eat pretty much anything that he can chew and probably some things he can't. Before he became my dog he had surgery to remove a tennis ball from his stomach.
Several months ago he finally had chewed up his red Kong ball to the point it no longer functioned as a ball so I threw it away. I assumed that the large chunks of it that were missing had fallen in the field where we threw the ball for him. I was wrong.
He also used to have a green rubber/plastic bone (that supposedly was melon flavored) that was his main chew toy. Eventually he chewed it to the point that chunks of it would go missing. I finally tossed that also. That was at least a month ago.
Friday he started acting kind of mopey (ie, he wasn't totally spastic like a monkey on crack) and was eating grass. Yesterday he hacked up a big ball of grass on the living room carpet. Hidden within was a fairly large chunk of green plastic from his green bone. It's been in his tummy for a month. The girlfriend was taking a nap and the last time the dog puked up something interesting and I woke her up to show her, she seemed upset, so I decided to just toss it this time. I did wake her up to tell her though.
Last night he still seemed pretty out of it so I picked him up, held him upside down and jarred him up and down in an attempt to shake loose anything that might be stuck somehow. I don't know if that is actually effective but I find it amusing and amusing me is part of his job description.
Because of the reverse doggy Heimlich or because of all the grass, last night he went out and puked several times in the yard. This morning I went out to clean up and found he had puked up 3 more undigestible bits. I was amazed because they were fairly large and two of them were from the red ball, which he hasn't had for at least 2 months. So, I took a picture of them. You can see them below the cut, if you want.
