Recent movies
Sep. 10th, 2006 01:34 pmIf you like westerns you need to check out Broken Trail, a recent mini-series. Any western with Robert Duvall is already ahead of the pack. He does another great job in this movie. If you liked Lonesome Dove and Open Range then you will dig this movie. I really, really enjoyed it.
Night Watch (Nochnoy Dozor): Odd movie. Russian, sort of a cross between The Matrix and Constantine. I liked this movie but it was hard to understand what the hell was going on. The version I saw was in Russian with English subtitles. From what I've read, the dubbed version is inferior. Basically it's a movie about the ancient fight between Dark and Light. Had odd vampires and witches and really old dudes.
Lucky Number Slevin: Case of mistaken identity, old grudges, feuding mobsters, Lucy Liu, violent action. Slight Pulp Fiction vibe. I liked it but it's one of those movies that doesn't really explain things. You gotta ride along wondering wtf is going on until you see enough of the pieces to be able to see the outline of the whole thing.
X-Men 3: Bleh. It was ok but very much inferior to the first two. I hate it when a director or writer assumes his audience is stupid. I'm glad I didn't see it at the theater.
