road rant

This afternoon, as I was coming home from the gym, some dude driving a Roush Ford F-150 came zooming up behind me, swerved around me and flew past, doing probably 50 in a 35 (or maybe even 30) zone, on a road that is passing by several bus stops, a hospital, the dmv and is pretty busy at this time of day.

I puttered along at a reasonable speed and the guy was going in the same direction as I was.  As he approached a stop light he again swerved, changing lanes twice in order to be the first car in line at the red light.  Oi.

I continued following him onto the freeway where he really was in his element, swerving out of the on ramp and into the actual freeway as soon as possible to get past all the people who were not getting up to 80 mph in the on ramp.  Once on the freeway he again did his swerving lane change dance to pick his way through traffic as fast as his $50,000 truck would take him.

Again, I followed along, not driving like a total asshole, staying in the right lane the entire time and not going more than 5mph over the speed limit.

And he gets off the freeway at my exit.  Only he is turning left and I am turning right.  Despite all his asshole driving shenanigans I pull up next to him at the light and get to make a right turn on red, getting ahead of him.  I looked over at him as I was about to turn and he was some blockheaded looking 20 something dude, talking on his cellphone. 

I wanted to pull my car in front of his, block him off and smack him around a bit but I'm trying to be the shepherd now so I didn't.

I'd like to say he'll pay for his assholery at the gas pump because that truck has to drink gas like a mofo but I doubt money is a problem for him.
