The Relay for Life and why I'm out of it
Feb. 7th, 2007 03:44 pmIt's coming around to that time of year again. Time for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.
Every year for the past 3 or so I have particpated.
Not any more though.
There is a website called Charity Navigator that rates charities. This is a link to the American Cancer Society's write-up.
They get 2 stars out of 4. Their CEO is compensated to the tune of $534,619 per year.
I make very much less than that. Instead of donating any of my money or time to the ACS I will offer to be CEO for a mere 34,619 dollars per year. That way I make more money, I get a job that isn't shit-ass boring and they get half a million bucks a year they can spend on cancer research. It's a win/win proposition.
But I'm not walking for them or giving them any more of my money. Not as long as that much of it is going to pay one person.
