political polling

One of the regulars on my forums registered for the McCain campaign so that he could get info on them. (He's an Obama supporter).  He was recently called by the McCain campaign for some internal polling.  He posted the poll questions on the forums to show us how skewed these things are.  I'm reposting them here for your edification.

I am amazed at how partisan these questions are. There is no attempt made at actually gathering data on what the people want or expect, only on manipulating them and getting numbers that will confirm pre-existing positions.  It's really disgusting.

Control

I saw the movie Control today.  The story of Ian Curtis, former lead singer for the band Joy Division.  He was sort of a thematic predecessor to Kurt Cobain in that he was the singer/song writer for what would become a hugely influential band who committed suicide at a young age, leaving behind a young daughter.

I liked the movie, but I'm a Joy Division fan, which might help.  There was a time when Substance was constantly spinning for me.  I still love that cd.

The movie was filmed in black & white and it works like that, I think.  It is based on the book written by Ian's wife about her life with Ian and it was directed by Anton Corbijn, who is a photographer that took many pictures of the band back in the late 70's.  Hopefully between the two of them they got the story pretty factual.

I wonder what would have happened with Ian Curtis and Joy Division if he hadn't hung himself. The three surviving members went on to form New Order and had quite a bit of success with that band so you'd think they would have done even better or at least as well with Ian along.

But I think killing himself like he did, he made those great songs that Joy Division recorded into legends.  Had he lived the band would have been popular (it was just hitting the start of the big time)  but what he did made them something else, something beyond popular.

Check out the movie if you get the chance.

and that's a wrap

As the recent flurry of posts from me might indicate, my infatuation with the game World of Warcraft has ended. It was fun but it's become boring so I canceled my account the other day.

Now I have to find something else to fill up my days.  I may take up alcoholism as a hobby.
